Our Lived Experience Consultants

Our Lived Experience Consultants (LXCs) advise and provide feedback on the lived experience of service users, helping to shape services for the better.

How do LXCs improve our support?

  • Sharing their experience: telling us what has gone well and what hasn’t gone so well
  • Giving advice to decision makers across the organisation including senior managers

LXCs get involved in the following ways:

  • Taking part in peer support groups
  • Joining interview panels
  • Researching potential improvements in our services
  • Facilitating and assisting with forums

Who are the BLG Mind LXCs?

We have three Lived Experience Consultants: Stella, Vicki and Stephen.

We caught up with all three of them and asked them what they like about their role:

Stella Amogbokpa (Lewisham)

“Being an LXC allows me to get involved in the wider work of BLG Mind and make a positive contribution. I am always listened to and regularly see the impact of our work. It is a rewarding experience and has helped me a lot.”

Vicki Pryde (Bromley)

“I’ve found it rewarding being on interview panels… I get a lot out of being part of the process in shaping policy”.

Stephen Lester, LXC

“Being a Lived Experience Consultant is just remarkable. No two days are the same. It brings opportunities to join in with other areas of BLG Mind.

I feel like I am listened to and my views are taken into consideration. The variety of going from Interview Panels to Forums to Committee Meetings keeps me on my toes and keeps me engaged”.

-Stephen Lester, LXC Lewisham

Richard Nana-Asomaning, Service Improvement Manager

“It is essential that we have a deep understanding of the needs of people with mental health problems and dementia.

We need to use that understanding to drive positive change across the organisation”

– Richard Nana Asomaning, Service Improvement Manager
