Reflecting on Volunteers Week 2024: A heartfelt thank you to our volunteers

Looking back on Volunteers Week 2024 (3-9 June), we’re taking this opportunity to express our heartfelt thanks to our amazing volunteers, who selflessly give their time and talents to support our work.

At SEL Mind, we are fortunate to be supported by our incredible team of over 250 volunteers. They bring passion, dedication, and their unique sets of skills to enable us to support those struggling with mental health and dementia challenges. From offering a compassionate ear to those in need, to facilitating groups, to handling reception duties, our volunteers play a crucial role in every aspect of our work.

Our fantastic People Officer Lauren organised the lovely Volunteers Week 2024 thank you events

Over the past week, we hosted three special events to acknowledge the commitment and hard work of those who contribute so much to our local community.

Time to celebrate

To give everyone a chance to get to know each other outside of their busy roles, we held two gatherings for our volunteers and staff to relax and mingle. At our Greenwich Centre, we welcomed brilliant volunteers from our peer support, counselling, and reception teams. The event was a great success, with everyone enjoying the tea, cake, and heartfelt conversations.

Blessed with sunny weather, our second celebration took place in the beautiful wildflower garden at the Beckenham Centre. The atmosphere was filled with laughter and camaraderie as everyone swapped stories and indulged in an array of delicious snacks. Each volunteer at both events received a thoughtfully prepared goodie bag as a token of our appreciation for their support, which included a custom designed thank you card.

Hand massages and treats

In addition to our social gatherings, we also held a soothing Hand Rituals Session. A representative from Neal’s Yard Remedies guided our volunteers through hand massage techniques using their luxurious and nourishing hand treats. This session provided a moment of rejuvenation and self-care, allowing our volunteers to unwind and feel pampered.

Celebrating our heroes

We want to extend our deepest thanks to every volunteer who has given their time, energy, and compassion to South East London Mind. Your dedication and hard work enables us to keep on providing vital mental health and dementia support, and we are immensely grateful for everything you do.
