SEL Mind’s parent support groups are celebrating a prestigious achievement – a Silver Award under the Pride in Practice scheme by the LGBT Foundation.

The award demonstrates SEL Mind’s commitment to fostering an inclusive environment for all parents, recognising their sexual orientation or gender identity.

“Being inclusive of LGBTQ+ parents is really important to us,” said Belinda Graham, Service Manager at SEL Mind. “We’re super proud to have received a silver award for Pride in Practice by the LGBTQ+ Foundation.”

As well as offering a range of life-changing support under the umbrella of Mindful Mums and Being Dad, SEL Mind recognises the unique challenges that LGBTQ+ parents might have by offering an LGBTQ+ parents space. Belinda explained, “earlier this year, we created a relaxed and non-judgmental coffee and play session where LGBTQ+ parents can connect with eachother. The groups are led by trained volunteers with their own personal experiences of being LGBTQ+ parents and managing the challenges of early parenthood

Earning a Silver Award signifies a significant level of achievement in areas like:

  • Visibility: Promoting awareness and understanding of LGBTQ+ identities
  • Services: Ensuring the groups are accessible and welcoming to LGBTQ+ parents.
  • Policies: Having clear policies that promote inclusion and challenge discrimination.
  • Engagement: Actively engaging with and supporting LGBTQ+ parents.

This award serves as a testament to SEL Mind’s ongoing efforts to create a safe and supportive space for all parents, fostering a sense of belonging and community.
