South East London Mind Welcomes Shadow Minister Abena Oppong-Asare MP!

We were delighted to welcome Abena Oppong-Asare MP, Shadow Minister for Mental Health and MP for Erith and Thamesmead to our offices during Mental Health Awareness Week.

Ms. Oppong-Asare’s visit provided a fantastic opportunity to showcase the vital work our dedicated teams undertake every day to support people living with mental health problems in South East London.

Sharing Our Work and Building Relationships

Our staff provided Ms. Oppong-Asare with a comprehensive overview of our services. Abena was particularly interested in our work in schools, addressing mental health inequalities for under-served communities and in the importance of working in partnership with the NHS.

Collaboration is Key

We believe that collaboration between mental health charities, policymakers, and local representatives is crucial in ensuring everyone has access to the support they need. Ms. Oppong-Asare’s visit signifies a positive step towards achieving this goal.

Looking Forward

We are grateful for Ms. Oppong-Asare’s visit and her commitment to mental health. We look forward to continuing to work together to build a stronger and more supportive mental health system for all.

“It was an absolute pleasure to welcome the Shadow Minister for mental health. It was a great opportunity to share about the brilliant work our teams are doing supporting people with mental health problems and dementia. We also had a wide-ranging discussion of issues including the rising demand for mental health services, mental health inequalities and issues with accessing welfare benefits” – Ben Taylor, Chief Executive
