South East London Orchestra raising money for BLG Mind

On Sunday 21st May 2023, South East London Orchestra performed their latest concert at St Michael & All Angels, Beckenham. As a charity partner to BLG Mind, this has been SELO’s third concert this year where they have so kindly raised money for our local mental health & dementia services.

The concert was introduced by conductor David Smith, then the orchestra treated us to Beethoven’s Violin Concerto in D major. This was a truly impressive performance. The soloist, Charlie Lovell-Jones, was remarkable and when the concerto finished there was long and resounding applause.

The interval followed and a large and very fine array of homemade cakes and scones were provided along with tea and coffee. All donations went to BLG Mind. Not even a crumb remained by the end of the interval. That has to be testament to how delicious the cakes were. Well done all those bakers out there!

Then, fully fuelled, everyone settled down to enjoy the second part of the concert – a very impressive performance of Dvorak’s Symphony No. 7 in D minor.

Concertgoers donated incredibly generously for which we are very grateful. In total, from the three concerts SELO have given so far in 2023, an amazing £720 has been raised for BLG Mind.

South East London Orchestra’s next concert will be held on Saturday 22nd July at All Saints, West Dulwich.
