Bromley Volunteers at Mayor’s Reception

Mayor of Bromley speaking at the Annual Civic Rception for Volunteers

Volunteers from across Bromley borough were invited to the Annual Civic Reception for Volunteers, hosted by Bromley Mayor, Councillor Kim Botting, on Thursday 19th July 2018, with many charities, volunteers, councillors and MPs in attendance.

As one of the Mayor’s local charities of the year, Bromley, Lewisham & Greenwich (BLG) Mind was invited to speak. The Chair of BLG Mind Trustees, Linda Gabriel, gave a speech highlighting the mental health and dementia services provided by the charity and thanked the Mayor for her support of the charity’s work. Paying tribute to the 140 volunteers contributing to the work of BLG Mind, Linda highlighted two Mindful Mums volunteers in attendance, Kim French and Fuschia Kelleher, who support pregnant women and new mothers in Bromley to look after themselves during a life changing period of women’s lives.

In her speech to the volunteers attending the event, the Mayor of Bromley said,

“I believe that the spirit of volunteering is the vital key to a strong civil society. It is the actions of individuals caring and acting in that spirit of individual commitment that makes all the difference…

…Albert Schweitzer once said, ‘I don’t know what your destiny will be, but one thing I do know: the only ones among you who will be really happy are those who have sought and found how to serve’.

That captures beautifully the meaning of volunteering…”
