Lewisham MindCare Dementia Support held an event on Friday 19th May at Abbots Hall Road Healthy Lifestyle Centre in Catford as part of Dementia Awareness Week 2017.

The regular Keep Dancing group was opened to the public and saw 19 people with dementia and their carers take part in music and movement activities.

The Keep Dancing groups provide music, movement and dance, to help people with dementia reflect on life memories, stay active as possible, provide social interaction with other people from the local community and provide carers with an opportunity to do something enjoyable with the person they care for, creating new experiences and memories.

This particular session was attended by a mix of people living with dementia and their family and friends. Chris, who carers for his wife who has dementia, said it was great to have the chance to dance and have a laugh together.

Claudette, who has Alzheimer’s disease, attended the session with her daughter said that the bean bags games brought back fond memories her of school days.
