New Bromley Community Mental Health Support Service

Bromley & Lewisham Mind has been awarded a contract to deliver community-based mental health support services in the London Borough of Bromley over the next three years.

The new service, which is funded by Bromley NHS Clinical Commissioning Group,
will be called Recovery Works and begin operating on 1st September 2016.

Working closely with Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust, Recovery Works will provide:

  1. Individual, person-centred Recovery Planning and support to access opportunities and resources in the local community
  2. Employment Support for people who are looking to find employment or who need support to stay in their jobs
  3. Peer Support with more independent, peer-led groups
  4. A Recovery College, providing a range of courses and workshops which are co-designed and delivered by people with lived experience of mental health problems.

The new service will bring together Bromley & Lewisham Mind’s Community Wellbeing Service and the Horizon House service provided by Oxleas.

Acting as a single team, the staff will focus on supporting people in their recovery journey, including relating to employment. Recovery Works will link closely with Oxleas services to ensure that the whole support pathway meets people’s needs.

“Experiencing mental health problems can have a significant impact on people’s lives, finances and relationships”, said Ben Taylor, Chief Executive at Bromley & Lewisham Mind. “It is really important that when this happens people get the support they need to manage and take control of their lives. The Recovery Works service will develop the support available in Bromley, ensuring that people get the help they need when they need it, and are enabled to move on with their lives”.

Stuart Thompson, Mental Health Commissioner in Bromley said, “We are confident the service will support individuals currently in formal treatment to live more independently in the community. This is a significant building block in seeking to achieve parity of esteem so that we value mental health equally with physical health”.

Recovery Works will operate from current Bromley & Lewisham Mind venues in Bromley, Orpington and Beckenham.

Further details will be shared closer to the new service launch date.
