Studio Upstairs is an arts and health charity with branches in Bristol and London. Their vision is for a world in which everyone can transform their life through creative community.  They support creative and personal recovery through arts practice.  They say they provide positive, life-changing interventions for people with mental or emotional difficulties within an artistic therapeutic community. They will support you to enhance your well-being and health, reinforce and recharge your creativity and achieve your own goals.

Studio Upstairs has a varied programme of workshops running throughout the year. They cover broad range of topics such as: learning traditional and contemporary arts techniques, personal and professional development and improving health and well-being.  They often host volunteer artists who are  interested in building their experience in working with groups and facilitating  workshops.

London Performance Group: Change of Frame.  The group is for those who are interested in exploring performance and theatre. No previous experience is needed but rather an interest in learning the craft of acting and performing and a commitment to attend regularly.  The programme takes the form of physical and vocal warm-ups, games, movement exploration, character building, improvisation and text work. There are regular opportunities to present short performances that bring together drama, dance and the visual arts, along with visits to the theatre.

Dalston Peer Support Group

  • Adults (18+) who are experiencing minor mental health difficulties such as anxiety or mild depression and would like to engage in creative activities. [No prior experience in art-making is required].
  • Self-referrals are welcome or can be brokered by GPs.
  • £20 per weekly session.

Each session will be an opportunity for you to work on your own artistic interests while engaging in relaxed, open and friendly conversation with others in the group. The group will be able to proactively shape the content and theme of the sessions.

You will try out a range of artistic activities including drawing, painting and sculpting in a fully equipped art studio.  The participants will have a chance to meet new people, explore their creativity in a fun, friendly and supportive space. The sessions will be supported by Studio Upstairs volunteers and a trained member of the team.
