Southwark CCG (Clinical Commissioning Group)

< Back to directory

Clinical Commissioning Groups or ‘CCGs’ are a new kind of organisation. They were created in April 2013 and are made up of all the local GP surgeries. The role of an NHS CCG is to commission NHS services on behalf of the people who live in the area.
NHS Southwark Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) is made up of all 38 GP surgeries in Southwark. The website explains what their job is in Southwark by providing information on who they are and what they do. You can read about what commissioning is and find more information about the services they commission for Southwark residents.
The website also provides information on Governance systems which ensure our organisation is managed efficiently, ethically, legally, and transparently. You can also read about commitments to Equality and Diversity.
The CCG plans, monitors and commissions (pays for) most of the health services you will use as a Southwark resident.  This includes services for people with mental health conditions, hospital care, urgent and emergency care, rehabilitation services, community health services and continuing healthcare.
Commissioning health services means:

  • making sure health services in Southwark are high quality;
  • working with the local community to plan and improve services;
  • having a good working relationship with the people who deliver your care and other organisations responsible for local services – such as Southwark Council and voluntary groups in Southwark; and
  • making most effective use of the money we have been given.
