South London Cares is a community network of young professionals and older neighbours (age 65 and over) hanging out and helping one another in our rapidly changing city.
They seek to address the modern blight of loneliness and disconnection in our capital by harnessing the people and places around us for the benefit of all.
Their objectives are to:

  • Reduce isolation and loneliness amongst older people and young professionals alike;
  • Improve the connection, confidence, skills, resilience and power of all participants so neighbours can feel part of our changing city rather than left behind by it;
  • Bring people together to reduce the gaps across social, generational, digital, cultural and attitudinal divides.

They organise – Social Clubs, Love Your Neighbour a 1 to 1 friendship matching scheme, and Outreach to help link older people in with activities.
Clubs occur during week days, evenings and weekends and include dance parties, new technology workshops, ‘back to work’ business visits, choirs, pub clubs, Desert Island Discs nights and more.
They also produce a printed monthly list of activities.
It’s very easy to get started. Call on 020 7118 0404. They will answer any questions, and let you about what’s going on in your area.
If you’re interested in Social Clubs they will send you their monthly programme of events through the post or via email (whichever you prefer). If it’s Love Your Neighbour, the one-to-one friendship match programme, that interests you, they will talk through how it works and arrange for Tess, who leads on this programme, to come and meet you to tell you more.
