SANE is a UK-wide charity working to improve quality of life for people affected by mental illness. SANE has three main objectives.

  1. To raise awareness and combat stigma about mental illness, educating and campaigning to improve mental health services.
  2. To provide care and emotional support for people with mental health problems, their families and carers as well as information for other organisations and the public.
  3. To initiate research into the causes and treatments of serious mental illness such as schizophrenia and depression and the psychological and social impact of mental illness.

SANE offers emotional support and information to anyone affected by mental health problems through SANEline the telephone helpline, Textcare and an online Support Forum where people share their feelings and experiences.
Textcare is designed to provide emotional support and connection at the times you need it most. They provide bespoke one-way messages directly to your mobile phone. It is a confidential service for those aged 16 and over, and each message sent will be individually written for you based on the information you provide. For this reason you need to submit your request a minimum of 72 hours before the time you would like to receive a message, and they can’t send you more than one message in a seven day period.  Textcare is not a crisis service.
SANEline – Mental Health Telephone Helpline 0300 304 7000

SANEline is a national, out-of-hours, mental health helpline offering specialist emotional support and information to anyone affected by mental illness, including family, friends and carers. They are open every day of the year from 4:30pm to 10:30pm.
