Clinic for Dissociative Studies (CDS)

< Back to directory

The Clinic for Dissociative Studies is a national centre of specialist expertise in the care and treatment of people with dissociative disorders.  Dissociative disorders, in particular dissociative identity disorder (D.I.D.), arise in response to extreme trauma and abuse.

As an independent provider to the NHS, they provide diagnosis, outpatient treatment, clinical supervision and training. At the Clinic they also participate in research and education, contributing to a greater understanding of dissociative disorders.

They offer a range of services, including:

  • Multi-disciplinary assessments offer a robust diagnosis for those who may have a dissociative disorder and suggest options for treatment. This includes a full psychotherapeutic interview and SCID-D diagnostic assessment. A psychiatric consultation is available when required.
  • Specialist psychotherapy for individuals, couples or families, on an intensive or non-intensive basis.
  • Training and support for local health and social care professionals working with people who have dissociative disorders.
  • Lectures, seminars and training events for charitable organisations and others in related fields.
  • Forensic and court work, including risk assessments.

They are an independent provider to the NHS and treat the majority of patients via NHS referral, which is usually made by a patient’s GP or an NHS consultant psychiatrist in their local area.  They are a national service and work with people from all over the country and have a network of psychotherapists working in various locations across England.

The Clinic is able to offer treatment and support to patients throughout the week.  They are able to offer general information and advice to clinicians, commissioners and those who may have a dissociative disorder as well as partners, carers and families.  However, the Clinic is not currently able to offer a helpline service.
