Bromley Recovery and Wellbeing College, part of Bromley Recovery Works, offers workshops and courses which combine enjoyment, fun and knowledge to enable students to achieve a greater insight into their own mental wellbeing.

We all experience that feeling of being stuck in a rut from time to time – wanting to move forward but not quite knowing how to get going.

In this practical course will explore ways of rediscovering a sense of purpose in life.

We will look at:

• ways of acquiring greater resilience

This one-day workshop will explore how psychological techniques, physical activity, nutrition can help improve your mental wellbeing and self-esteem.

We’ll explore:
• how mindfulness and meditation can help improve mental wellbeing
• how physical activity can positively improve your mood, memory and other cognitive functions
• how nutrition can enhance your wellbeing by nourishing your brain and helping reduce stress and anxiety
The workshop involves group work and a very low level of physical activity.

The Upside of Stress

Stress is unavoidable, it is part of all our lives. Excessive stress can harm our mental and physical health but viewed in a positive way stress can also be helpful:
• Stress can help us move forward.
• Stress can become a powerful tool in our recovery from some of the more negative aspects of modern life.
This course examines some current thinking on the successful stress management, focussing on learning how to live better with stress.

Hoarding Workshop

Hoarding can have a major impact on the quality of a person’s life. A tendency to hoard is very common, but it can be overwhelming.
We will explore what hoarding is, its origins, and its impact on people’s lives.
We will focus on practical solutions which can support a personal pathway towards taking control of the desire to hoard. This is not easy, but it can be done.
We take an optimistic approach: hoarding can be overcome!

Build a More Positive Image of Yourself – a short guide to developing greater self-esteem

This course explores practical ways that you can gain a positive perception of yourself.

  • Are you confident in how you present yourself to others?
  • Do you accept yourself for who you are, granting yourself genuine self-respect?
  • Or do you doubt yourself, question your true value as a human being, and struggle to accept yourself for who you are?

Get Active Sessions

This is a series of gentle walks around Kelsey Park, ideal for those who would like to become more active but who feel nervous about joining a regular walking group. Sally Baxter is an experienced photographer; she will be on hand to give advice about technique and composition.

There is no need to have an expensive camera, most mobile phones today take excellent pictures. If you are not interested in photography, just come along and enjoy the walk, it is a great way to meet people. The group will be having a refreshment break in the Park’s café. All are welcome from complete novices to the more experienced.

How to Relax and Stay Calm

Learn to deal with stress mindfully whilst being kind to yourself and others.

Left unchecked, stress can make us unwell and impair our capacity to be happy. In this course you’ll learn:

  • Meditation techniques that recognize, allow, and soothe the symptoms of stress
  • Mindful movements to relax body and mind and regulate our breathing

There will be time to share and discuss anything that comes up for you in the meditation which can help us understand the value of mindfulness.

This course explores how keeping a journal can help you gain control of your emotions and improve your mental health if you are struggling with stress, depression, or anxiety.
• Simply writing down your thoughts and feelings to understand them more clearly.
• Help to create order when your world feels like it’s in chaos. Get to know yourself by revealing your most private fears, thoughts, and feelings.
• Try and write every day – write or draw whatever feels right.
• Look forward to journaling. Use your journal as you see fit.

The Allotment Project

Whether you are a complete beginner or an experienced gardener this course offers a chance to gain valuable experience in a relaxed and friendly environment.

The group maintains and grows a wide range of plants, including flowers, soft fruit, and vegetables in three allotments.
